Excavation & Trenching: Competent Person - [In-Person] - Jul 7, 2026 (07-07-2026 EX IP)

  • This 8-hour Competent Person level course covers the OSHA 1926 Subpart P Excavation and Trenching Standard, ANSI A10.12 and EM 385-1-1 Section 25. This course emphasizes Best Practices to enable supervision to plan for and implement safe and productive excavation activities efficiently.
  • Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to compare and contrast the differences between 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P, and EM385-1-1, Section 25 (2024), prioritize safe production using the approved methods for planning and managing excavation and trenching work, implement the required duties and responsibilities of a Competent Person, conduct atmospheric monitoring with calibrated direct reading instrumentation, identify hazards and take immediate corrective action, conduct visual and manual analysis and classify soils, select the appropriate options for protective systems, understand how to use manufacturers technical data for planning and inspection of system installation, be able to conduct an inspection and complete documentation.
  • Attendance for the entire session is mandatory.
  • Assessment is based on participation and demonstration of understanding.
  • There are no prerequisites for this course.
  • No technology is required for in-person attendance. A working computer with a microphone and a camera "on" is required for the virtual sessions.
