  • This 8-hour Competent Person level course covers the OSHA 1926 Subpart P Excavation and Trenching Standard, ANSI A10.12 and EM 385-1-1 Section 25.
  • This course emphasizes Best Practices to enable supervision to plan for and implement safe and productive excavation activities efficiently.
  • Course topics include the scope and application of the standard; understanding the definition of an excavation and trench; Competent and Qualified Person requirements; surface encumbrances; Class 1-3 barricading systems; underground installations; access and egress; structural ramps; exposure to vehicular traffic; exposure to falling loads; fall protection requirements; warning systems for mobile equipment; hazardous atmospheres; protection from hazards associated with water accumulation; stability of adjacent structures; protection of employees from loose rock or soil; inspections; walkways over excavations; requirements for protective systems (sloping, benching, shielding, shoring, engineered design); and soil classification.
